Jane begs her stepmother, Marie McCray, to help her get the car, but Marie instead proposes a deal. Marie insists that Jane can get a car if she gets all A's and B's on her next report card. If there are any D's or F's, Jane will be forced to give Marie whatever she wants...
Jane agrees without hesitation, confident that she will be at the top of her game this semester. All of Jane's hopes and dreams are dashed when she receives her next report card. Despite her best efforts, she performs poorly in Science and Math. Jane will not be able to get the car because of her poor grades.
